Hippo Expand "Arctic" Themed Water Factory at Maidstone Leisure Centre

1st February 2015

Hippo have expended the existing “Arctic” themed water play features at Maidstone Leisure Centre to create a New Winter Wonderland for children of all ages and abilities.  The new features complement the existing features and provide a fresh and exciting play experience, giving families an incentive to visit the centre regularly.

The Interactive Waterball has been repositioned in the beach pool and connected to the existing 3 arm mast via a span pipe to create an “Arctic” Water Factory.  The span pipe features small tipping buckets and waterwheels which provide great anticipatory play for older children.   Children also enjoy low level play provided by the waterball, and 2 interactive channels, allowing them to explore their watery environment while developing water confidence (and learning through play).

The Penguin Pool has been turned into a toddler Splash Zone and features include a squirt station with varied low level play and water flows, two interactive wall panels and an under the sea toddler slide.  Both the panels and toddler slide feature a bright aquatic design with moving elements and mirrors to provide tactile, visual and auditory stimulation.   GRP steps have also been installed in the Penguin Pool to allow easier access to the existing tipping trough feature.

Finally an arch has been installed over the River Run and holds 2 large tipping buckets which tip, soaking those below when a critical fill point has been reached, soaking those below.

New Hippo Play Features for Guildford Spectrum

28th January 2015

Hippo have transformed the toddler and childrens pool at Guildford Spectrum Leisure Centre into a bright and colourful, highly interactive play area.  A range of play features were chosen based on Hippo’s research about customer needs and what children like to play with, therefore aiming to increase visitor numbers and revenue at the centre.  The play features provide excitement for all ages and abilities, from the under ones through to teenagers, and promote learning and water confidence through play.

A fun water factory has been created from two Masts and a Waterball, which join together by two interactive arches.  Both incorporate a variety of surprise and anticipatory fun. Waterwheels, tipping buckets and shark showers are popular with older children, whilst toddlers benefit from the low level play provided by the waterball.

A mini splash pad including 3 in-ground water jets, an interactive snake around the edge of the pad and mirrored portholes fixed to the inner wall, offer tactile play and visual stimuli.

Bright and vibrant fish water squirts create fun by gently squirting water into children in the pool.  Shark squirts which fill a tipping channel and multiple cascading channels are popular with toddlers who can enjoy manipulating the water flow with interactive paddles.

Additional mirrored portholes have been installed in the plunge pool, and a variety of interactive play panels featuring mirrors and bubbles add to the play experience through tactile, visual and auditory visual stimulation.  The panels also create a barrier between the plunge pool and poolside.  Further panels have been used to prevent children climbing over the interactive channels and behind the mini flume.  The open tube mini flume is 12m long and provides a quick thrill seeking ride for older children.

A focal centre piece of the new play development is a unique stripy lighthouse, complete with a flashing beacon which will light up when the wave machine turns on.  A toddler slide snakes through themed rocks around the around the lighthouse ending in the pool.

Hippo installed handrails around the spa pools and at the back of the splash pad for enhanced safety.  Non-slip wet pour safety surface was applied to the splash pad, the poolside, the flume walkway and also provides a safe landing pad for the toddler slide aound the lighthouse.

Hippo made effective use of existing water supplies and worked as efficiently as possible to minimise the time that the pool was closed to the public.  The installation was completed in time for the Christmas holidays.  Hippo have also allowed for further expansion to the play features in the future.

Hippo make a Splash at LIW 2014

2nd October 2014

Hippo Leisure had a fantastic time at Leisure Industry Week, 30th September - 2nd October 2014, held at Birmingham's NEC.  Hippo promoted their interactive water play equipment including Interactive Masts, Water Factories, Play Platforms, Splash Zones and Flume Slides.   Their safety flooring and pool filtration and maintenance services also proved very popular.  The Hippo team explained to wet play facility managers how easy it is to use an existing water supply from a fan pipe or mushroom shower to turn a lifeless pool area in to a bright and vibrant Water Factory or Splash Zone.  These fun products appeal to all ages and abilities and help to increase visitor numbers and revenue.

Hippo's fresh and vibrant stand attracted hundreds of visitors and featured a new video, which included the latest Computer Aided Design images for transforming your pool with a water factory, as well as footage from recent installations.  Hippo's new colourful brochure was also very popular and available from the stand either in print or on a Hippo USB drive.  Hippo have a totally customised approach which enables play features to be tailored to suit any pool or poolside regardless of shape or size.  Hippo look forward to seeing you again at Leisure Industry Week 2015.
